Budi was recognised as Indonesia’s Best Sommelier by the Indonesian Sommelier Association in 2014. Budi is definitely persistent in his craft. He is certified by the Court of Master Sommeliers and started his career in Jakarta. Since then he has constantly honed his skills through work, research and competitions.

“I’ve entered many competitions, coming in third in 2011 and second in 2012. Finally, in 2014, I was honoured to be first,“ states the calm sommelier. Following this success, he was trusted to lead the popular Italian restaurant at Sheraton Bali Kuta Resort, where he was in charge of the extensive wine collection. He became sommelier to bridge’s award-winning cellar in December 2018.

Budi is originally from Jakarta and moved to Bali in 2012. He is the oldest of three siblings and is married with two children.

His personal favourite wines are all full-bodied reds, which improve in quality and taste through aging. Red wines have also been proven to be better for one’s health. When it comes to wine and food pairing, he loves the Lamb Rack paired with Barossa Shiraz.

As an award-winning Sommelier he is inspired by Gerard Basset, International Award-Winning Sommelier in 2010 and Arvid Rosengren, the best sommelier of 2016. What Budi loves most about being a sommelier are the times he can introduce a new wine to a customer that will make their night more enjoyable.

“I’d like to keep learning and being really good at what I’m doing,” he smiles.
